Greg Payton, Samaritan Trustee, was taught by his mom that the way to live was to treat people with kindness and to spread love. His mom, Sheilia C. Kersey, believed in paying it forward and putting love out into the world. In her dining room, she kept a coffee table book called Random Acts of Kindness, and it was a message that she lived by every day—believing that even the smallest gestures of kindness could create positivity in the world.
One of the ways she did this was by supporting the Girls Scouts. Throughout her life Sheilia never missed a chance to purchase Girl Scout Cookies. Then to pay it forward, she would give out those cookies to others.
To honor her, Greg decided to continue what she had started. For the past four years he has been purchasing Girl Scout cookies and distributing them. This year, he purchased 250 boxes of Girl Scout cookies from his neighborhood Girl Scout and chose Samaritan caregivers as the recipients of these sweet treats.
The cookies were distributed to Samaritan caregivers with the help of Samaritan social workers and Inpatient Center teams. Greg’s kindness provided a sweet reminder for caregivers that they are not forgotten. Sheila led by example and through her son Greg her legacy of kindness continues.
