All Signs Point to Supporting Hospice

On Monday, June 26, 2017 Samaritan will host its annual golf tournament “Drive Fore a Good Cause” at Little Mill Country Club in Marlton, NJ. The tournament, sponsored by The Richardson Family Dealerships, attracts avid golfers to raise funds and awareness for comfort, support, and quality of life for anyone living with serious illness.

This fun charitable event wouldn’t be possible without the driving support of our 30-member golf tournament committee. Samaritan greatly appreciates each member’s dedication to enlisting the support of sponsors, gathering auction items, and inviting players to join us in advancing Samaritan’s charitable mission.

In the second of an ongoing series, take a moment to meet one of these hard-working committee members.

Meet Committee Member Dennis Flanagan

Dennis FlanaganDennis Flanagan started playing golf more than 40 years ago. It was May of 1974 when he and a group of friends decided to get out of the gym, off the basketball court, and out on the golf course.

He’s been a member of Samaritan’s golf committee since the second-ever tournament two decades ago, and has been making it a family affair by adding his son, Sean, to his foursome for the last 16 years, and his son-in- law, Brian Grzebin, for the last 12 years.

Dennis is former president/CEO of Oki Data Corp., and Sean’s partner at Always A Good Sign in Berlin, NJ.

We’re lucky to have this family of golfers supporting Samaritan.  Enjoy our Q & A with Dennis!

How often do you golf?

I golf three to four times per week from spring to fall.

What’s your favorite course to play?

Because of my job with Oki Data Corp., I’ve been lucky to golf all over the world. My three favorite golf courses are Ballybunion Golf Club in County Kerry, Ireland, The Ridge at Back Brook near Princeton, NJ, and Kuni Country Club near Hakoni, Japan.

Why do you volunteer for Samaritan?

I volunteer for Samarian to ensure end-of-life care can be available to all who need it.

What’s your most memorable golf moment?

My most memorable golf moment was my first round with my wife and the enjoyment we’ve had playing together ever since.

What life lessons have you learned from playing golf?

Golf has taught me patience. The integrity of the game carries over in life. Also, I’ve learned to be careful at the 19th hole!

What’s your favorite part about golfing?

My favorite part of golfing is while you are trying to beat the course, you are also building and nourishing relationships.

Any other additional thoughts about golf OR Samaritan you’d like to share?

God Bless all those that work and support the Samaritan way of care and thank you to all that support our Gala and Golf events!
