Samaritan’s Friendly Callers and Friendly Visitors reduce feelings of social isolation and loneliness by providing meaningful connections between caring volunteers and program participants, allowing both to enjoy and participate in regular conversations, shared moments, and a sense of belonging.
One of the first organizations in South Jersey to address issues of social isolation and loneliness, Samaritan launched its Friendly Caller Program two years ago to support homebound patients. The program connects trained volunteers with patients for weekly phone calls.
Samaritan has since expanded its efforts with the Friendly Visitor Program, where volunteers meet patients in person at their homes, hospitals or rehabilitation centers.
The benefits of meaningful connection through the Friendly Caller and Friendly Visitor program are many.
