Hospice Eligibility Criteria for Liver Disease

Advanced liver disease can place a significant physical and emotional burden on patients and families as care needs become more complex. Understanding what hospice eligibility involves can make it easier to plan ahead, discuss care preferences, and make informed decisions about the next stage of support.

The following liver disease hospice criteria outline the clinical and functional factors that may be used to help determine whether a patient is eligible for hospice care.

When to call hospice for liver disease patients?

t may be time to contact hospice when liver disease is becoming harder to manage, and patients or families need more support making care decisions. Hospice can help when the goals of care begin to shift toward comfort, symptom relief, and quality of life.

A hospice evaluation gives families an opportunity to discuss the patient’s condition, ask questions about hospice eligibility for liver disease, and understand what services may be available.

A hospice evaluation can help clarify whether the patient meets cancer hospice criteria and explain what services may be available to support both the patient and family.
