Compassionate Care from Trained Professionals

Your hospice home health aide is certified by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing and works closely with a hospice registered nurse to provide the personal care outlined in your loved one’s care plan. While

CHHAs are not nurses and do not administer medications, they play a crucial role in supporting daily comfort and well-being. Each aide is also trained in Pressure Ulcer (bed sore) Prevention to help protect your loved one’s skin health.

How do Home Health Aides support patients?

“He especially enjoyed the baths provided by Ivy his CHHA. This was quite surprising because my uncle was not too fond of bathing, or as he would say, “water and I don’t get along.” Laurie Ramirez did say she trusted Ivy would get him to succumb to soap, water, and his gentle nature!”

Providing Personal Care with Dignity

CHHAs offer gentle, hands-on care assistance with daily activities in private homes, assisted living communities, or nursing home facilities, rehabilitation centers, or at Samaritan’s inpatient hospice centers. They help with:

  • Personal hygiene – bathing, grooming, dressing
  • Mobility assistance – repositioning in bed, helping with transfers from bed to chair
  • Light meal preparation – preparing small, easy-to-eat meals
  • Comfort care – fresh linens, clean pajamas, and skin care

A warm bath, fresh sheets, and nourishing meal can provide immense comfort. Beyond these tasks, hospice home health aides offer kindness, companionship, and emotional support, becoming a trusted presence when families need it most.

(Please note: CHHAs are not permitted to cut fingernails or toenails as part of this personal care. They are only permitted to file nails for safety reasons.)

This was quite surprising because my uncle was not too fond of bathing, or as he would say, “water and I don’t get along.” Laurie Ramirez did say she trusted Ivy would get him to succumb to soap, water, and his gentle nature!”
