Samaritan’s Friendly Callers and Friendly Visitors reduce feelings of social isolation and loneliness by providing meaningful connections between caring volunteers and program participants, allowing both to enjoy and participate in regular conversations, shared moments, and a sense of belonging.
Made with soft, lifelike fur, authentic sounds, and realistic reactions, Samaritan’s Robotic Companion Pets respond to touch and voice, have heartbeats, and sleep when they are not in use. Most importantly, each provides companionship, engagement, and a sense of purpose for individuals who might otherwise feel isolated or lonely.
Designed to help decrease social isolation and loneliness among individuals of different generations, the Intergenerational Connection Program provides two generations of individuals with the invaluable opportunity to share their experiences and wisdom with one another – all while cultivating a deeper understanding and mutual respect through their shared experience in the program.
As one of the first organizations in the country to launch programs designed to address and reduce social isolation and loneliness, Samaritan convened the Social Isolation, Loneliness & Connection Collaborative (SILCC), a coalition of major health systems and 40+ nonprofits, committed to addressing the physical and mental toll of social isolation.
