Movie Screening & Discussion
Being Mortal Film Screening and Discussion
FRONTLINE follows renowned New Yorker writer and Boston surgeon Atul Gawande as he explores the relationships doctors have with patients who are nearing the end of life. In conjunction with Gawande’s new book, Being Mortal, the film investigates the practice of caring for the dying, and shows how doctors — himself included — are often remarkably untrained, ill-suited and uncomfortable talking about chronic illness and death with their patients. After the 56-minute documentary, there will be a 45-minute discussion.
CREATIVE JOURNALING EXPERIENCE
Take a bit of time to consider some of life’s big questions. You will have the opportunity to record your personal responses to those questions using simple tools to create a journal page that you will take with you. All tools will be supplied.
An interactive workshop with Paul Lisicky, American novelist and Cherry Hill native
This session will include the author reading from his recent book, The Narrow Door, a deeply moving memoir of friendship. Followed by a discussion about memory and loss and a short writing activity.
